Workshop on Foundations of Learning from Data

September 9—14, 2018
University Residential Center
Bertinoro (Forlì-Cesena), Italy

The adoption of machine learning methods by industry and scientists from non-computational disciplines has skyrocketed in recent years thanks to the widespread availability of efficient implementations and the undeniable practical success of novel methods. This success must be accompanied by a solid understanding of theoretical foundations of the used methods. At the same time, rigorous study of learning algorithms for novel data, from time series to dynamic graphs, can pave the way for an ever increasing understanding of nature and human phenomena through the analysis of data.

The FouLarD'18 workshop brings together researchers from the areas of computational learning theory, algorithmic data mining, statistics, and theoretical computer science to allow for a full-immersion exchange of recent results and a collaborative discussion of bold novel research directions, in the relaxed and thought-inducing setting of the Bertinoro castle.
